It's no surprise that in recruitment, particularly when a candidate has hard to find skills, there is some crossover as to which of us deal with the candidate, and in most other agencies, internal competition can be to the detriment of the best interests of the candidate.
Recent Case Study: We had a recent example of a candidate with highly desirable skills, who could have been dealt with by two teams within the office. We always take the decision to act in the best interests of the candidate, and so agreed to share the workload according to which clients we each knew best. The important element of this was to work together (i.e. he's dealing with ARV Solutions rather than individual recruiters) and to communicate progress.
This candidate was based abroad, so it was important that when he came to the UK for interviews, he presented to as many relevant employers as he could, and to make just one journey. His plan looked something like this:Weekend: fly in and set up a base | Tuesday: South Wales | Wednesday: Central London | Thursday: Essex | Friday: "off site" meeting at airport
We communicated frequently, by email, phone and Skype. Clients spoke to different members of our team, so it was important that activities were seamless and the candidate made himself readily available for contact. By Friday, our candidate had four offers to deliberate on. Throughout, we kept the clients, as well as each other, aware of progress and promptly the candidate made his unbiased decision.
It was a very interesting process: working so openly together gave the candidate the confidence we were acting in his best interests, and in turn he gave us exclusivity.
So who got the fee? We shared it! At ARV Solutions, we are rewarded for both individual and team efforts, so by acting in the best interests of the candidate, we also shared the rewards.
