Term 4 Commences on Monday 6 October 2014

Message from the Principal

I wish everyone a rejuvenating change of pace in the coming two weeks, whether you are staying at home or venturing away; whether your child is in ELC and thinks two weeks is forever before they return to the College, or your young adult is in Year 12 and can’t believe that they are about to experience their last couple of weeks of formal schooling ever!

As I do at the end of every term, I have urged students to do three things

•         Have a rest and relax (this is important for Year 12
students, just as it is for everyone!)
•         Be safe
•         Do something for someone else – not because you
have to but because you can!

Thank you for your support during the term. I look forward to sharing our 2014 Celebration on 16 October at the Robert Blackwood Hall.

Elisabeth Lenders
Principal

Kingsnet

Kingsnet is getting a new look and feel and will be ready for the new school term.

When you login in Term 4, you’ll notice that the home page and other pages have all had a makeover!
One point of difference is that it will be easier to see what’s happening in your area of the school, with news being specifically targeted to school sections.

As always, you should login regularly to receive news and information about the daily operations of the College.
Kingsnet will continue to develop and expand over the coming years.

We hope you like our new look!

World Mental Health Day is on Friday 10 October.

As a College community we will be holding a Relay for Mental Health throughout the the day and we would like you to be involved.

Throughout the day, a variety of students will be walking around the oval, highlighting the positive correlation between physical activity and mental health.

All parents are welcome and encouraged to participate in the walk at any stage during the day. The Relay will commence at 9.00am and continue until 6.00pm.

The day will culminate in a BYO dinner/picnic at 5.30pm, when families can come together to celebrate our wonderful community. This event recognises the importance that a sense of belonging to a community and companionship has in relation to mental wellbeing.

More detailed information regarding this event will be made available closer to the time.

Cross Country Season Wrap

This year’s House Cross Country at Gardiners Creek on Tuesday 5 August was one of the greatest sporting events of the year. Not only was the student participation exceptional, but the enthusiasm shown by all Houses was an indication that the addition of the Spirit Cup has been a culture-enhancing addition to the 2014 carnivals.

Year 3 Camp to Sovereign Hill

Last Thursday and Friday, Year 3 travelled to Ballarat and travelled back in time to 1854. The camp represented the culmination of our Unit of Inquiry ‘Where we are in place and time’. Students took part in many activities related to life in the 1850s, including a gold pour demonstration, a trip down the Red Hill Mine, nine pin bowling and a coach ride in a four-horse coach.

News from Camp Australia

We spent the past two weeks raising funds for the Smith Family Back 2 School Appeal and I would like to say a big ‘thank you’ to all the children, educators and families for supporting this great cause along with actively contributing towards the cause.  We kicked off our fundraising week with one minute challenges and ended it with face painting. It was wonderful to see children developing a sense of belonging to groups and communities. We cannot wait to find out our final tally at the end of this week and what makes it even more special is that this will be dollar matched by Camp Australia.

Your Parents and Friends Association

High Tea and Fashion Parade
About 65 parents, friends and staff attended the inaugural High Tea and Fashion parade on Saturday 6 September.  The format of the day included a fashion parade, high tea and a shopping experience provided by a number of vendors all of whom paid for a stall and donated an item to the silent auction. The feedback has been excellent and more than $1800 was raised through ticket sales, vendor fees and the silent auction.  This money will be put towards new equipment for our refurbished gymnasium.  Thank you to everyone who supported this event.  Thank you in particular to our sponsors including those vendors who set up a stall on the day and who generously donated to our silent auction.  These sponsors included:
