Welcome to the biggest online golf club in the UK... No images? Click here August News... Dear TSGers, with the Great British summer over and done with (we did have one, eventually!) and as we approach the Autumn months, our attention now turns to what will be our only 'Official' TSG event of the year - The TSG MatchPlay Championship (details below). However, with the World Handicap System due to be introduced in November, the TSG Team are busy learning how things will work under the new system and how it will affect the TSG Handicaps going-forward (No doubt this will spark some debate!). Till next time... #KeepYourDistance... Ian & The TSG Team NEW WORLD HANDICAP SYSTEM - COMING NOVEMBER 2020In November 2020, the golf world moves to a NEW system whereby every round you play counts towards your handicap index. Above is a short explainer video but, rest assured, TSG Handicap Guru, Paul Houghton and TSG developer Adam, have already begun working on updating the TSG Handicap system. No doubt it will cause some debate, but we think it will make for a fairer system, especially when it comes to playing courses with different levels of difficulty. THE SOCIAL GOLFER 10th Birthday at CELTIC MANOR!As regular readers of the TSG monthly newsletter know, last month we ran a TSG competition to play on the Ryder Cup TWENTY TEN course with Mike Jones - Celtic Manor Ambassador. And the winners are (in no particular order)... Peter Mayo, Dave Allchorne, Damian Benstead, Ruth Brand, Steve Goss, Ben John, John Barber, Gary Wilson, Tuan Nguyen and Paul Houghton. We'll be posting photos of the event in the Sept newsletter - Should be fun! Mike Jones - Disabled Golfer In October 2015, proud Welshman Mike Jones, an electrical engineer, and single figure golfer, climbed astride his Yamaha MT09 Sports Tourer motorbike for the trip across the Severn Bridge from Cwmbran into England for a shift in Bristol. With a toot of his horn, he said goodbye to wife Beth without a care in the world. Four days later he would wake up in hospital in Swansea in severe pain and confusion...
TSG Player of the Month: (sponsored by www.2fore1.co.uk) Chrissy Peacham at Cranham GC with an EXCEPTIONAL score = 45 pts. Well done to Chrissy, our first Lady winner since Kate Tan in August 2017. Welcome to the 2021 TSG Masters Ms.Peacham! Congratulations! The TSG GREEN towel is on its way to you! H'cap change: 28.0 to 22.4! (Ouchie!) Course Review of the Month: Silvermere Golf Club, Cobham Surrey, UK "Dont rush there..." I've always believed in good Customer Service and I like a club that has a nice feel about it ... so to be met in the Starters hut by the grumpiest Starter EVER, did not give us a good initial impression of what was to come. I soon picked up that other members of staff also know this Starter as a miserable individual. Nevertheless, we soldiered on regardless! Eventually, we got out on the course but this was after being told that I would have a delay as the 2 ball in front of me was late due to traffic (!)...not my problem Mr Misery! Now, the course is a bit worn in places and some of the tee boxes are ridiculous - teeing up on hardly any grass! Otherwise, the course was pleasant. I had not played it for a few years. Some of the holes are very similar but there are some great challenging holes and overall, it's a nice track. However, the pace of play was abysmal..and alas, it has really put me off going back there. Even a number of the group behind my 3-ball sacked it off and walked in. Such a shame as it has a superb driving range and more people seem to go for that, plus the 60% off outlet store at the top of the complex is fantastic. I could spend a fortune in there. I will probably go back again but will try and miss Mr Miserable and try and get round in a decent time!! John Donaldson - Central London (H'cap 16)
