Happy New Year! After a few days of delicious food, family, friends, fireworks and parties, we have now started the new year.
This year, we can look forward to the revival tour of 3: THE GARDEN in the big Dutch theatres and the premiere of 6: THE SQUARE at the SPRING festival. LIEFDESVERKLARING (Declaration of Love) is going abroad again and we are making plans for 2017/2020 and for subsequent editions of the summer academy WE LIVE HERE during Julidans.
The first rehearsals for 6: THE SQUARE are already in full swing, and Nicole has been invited to take part in a special collaborative project with Eric Ellingsen, architect and landscape architect, in Iceland in January! More about 3: THE GARDEN and 6: THE SQUARE in this newsletter.

This exhibition by Dutch artist Germaine Kruip in the Oude Kerk in Amsterdam - with works inspired by the monumental building, such as A Square and Oude Kerk Untitled - is still on show until 27 March 2016.

3: THE GARDEN - on tour from 8 February

In 2016, Nicole is taking her production 3: THE GARDEN (2011) to the big theatres, in order to thoroughly mix up ‘nature’ and ‘culture’ once again. At the start of the Jeroen Bosch Year in 2016 (Bosch was one of Nicole’s sources of inspiration), the production will be presented at several Dutch theatres, kicking off in Stadsschouwburg Amsterdam on 8 February 2016.
Nicole’s ‘Garden of Eden’ revolves around nature and culture, with six acrobatic performers carrying out a ritual of mirroring, kaleidoscopic patterns.
The performance in the Stadsschouwburg is preceded by a talk about the relationship between dance and visual art. 3: THE GARDEN is visibly influenced by the exuberant painting The Garden of Earthly Delights (Tuin der Lusten), by Jeroen Bosch. The 500th anniversary of the painter’s death will be celebrated in 2016. The evening concludes with an after-performance talk by Nicole herself and dramaturge Felix Ritter.

Following a great initial working period with second-year students from ArtEZ Dance Academy, which took a close look at the American square dance, on the theme VARIATIONS ON A SQUARE, the new year now brings us 6: THE SQUARE. On the first Monday of the year, the complete team of 11 performers came together in the theatre for the first time, for a week filled with experiment, research, encounters and deeper insights.
In the coming months, we will be working towards the premiere in Stadsschouwburg Utrecht at the SPRING festival, where the production will open the festival on 19 & 20 May!
On Sunday 10 January, we will join SPRING in giving a glimpse of things to come, in a special programme in Stadsschouwburg Utrecht as part of the ‘Nieuwjaarsduik': the opening of the cultural calendar year in Utrecht.
