The Great Figgy Pudding Caroling Competition
Portland Mall Management, Inc. is excited to bring The Great Figgy Pudding Caroling Competition to Portland's Transit Mall! Figgy Pudding is a fun and festive event that will bring caroling groups of all ages to the heart of downtown. The name comes from the old English Carol that begins "we wish you a Merry Christmas" and in a later verse, carolers demand a reward for their singing "go bring us some figgy pudding!" This free caroling competition will be held on Friday, December 12, 2014, rain or shine from 6:00pm - 7:30pm. Nearly 15 caroling groups including the Pacific Youth Choir, Girl Scouts of Vancouver and Bridgetown Sound will spread holiday cheer along SW Yamhill & Morrison Streets and compete for the grand prize of $1,000! For more information click here.

And estimated 15,000 people braved the rain and filled the Square and adjacent blocks downtown the Day After Thanksgiving to join the community tradition of lighting the Tree. The Tree was lit with more than 14,000 multi-colored LED lights followed by a holiday sing-a-long with Thomas Lauderdale of Pink Martini, "Oregon's Own" 234th Army Band, the Pacific Youth Choir and the NW Community Gospel Choir. In case you missed the event you can watch a video here and download the Songbook curated by Thomas Laudedrale here. The Tree will be on display through January 1st.

Dine on SW 5th & 6th Avenues
SW 5th and 6th Avenues not only continue to serve as prime locations for downtown businesses to reside but most recently have become a hot spot for dining. From fast food to fine dining, the transit mall has a multitude of restaurant options.

Joining the newly expanded Old Town China Town district on SW 5th is the Mexican restaurant Mi Mero Mole. Mi Mero Mole whose first location is on SE Division, opened its second location earlier this month. Now serving Mexican stews and stir-frys and house-made tortillas, Mi Mero Mole is located at 32 NW 5th Ave. To learn more click here.

Opening on the transit mall earlier this May, the Brazilian steakhouse Fogo de Chao continues to thrive. Located at 930 SW 6th Ave and seating nearly 250 people, Fogo de Chao would be the perfect spot for your holiday party or Christmas Eve dinner. For reservations or to purchase holiday gift cards click here.

And if you'd like to warm up this holiday season, transit mall guests can dine al fresco by an open fire at Nel Centro. Sitting at the corner of SW 6th & Columbia, Nel Centro is a perfect location for a pre-show dinner or an after-show dessert. Serving Italian wines and dishes, PDX Eater recently named Nel Centro as the 7th best restaurant with an outdoor fireplace. Click here to learn more.
