RPRA and Stewardship Ontario Release Stakeholder and Indigenous Peoples Engagement and Communications Plan

Registration is open for meetings on October 12 & October 27 to solicit input from Municipalities and First Nations Communities

On August 14, the Ontario Minister of Environment and Climate Change, Hon. Chris Ballard issued a Direction for Proposal for an amended Blue Box Program Plan (a-BBPP), to the Resource Productivity  and Recovery Authority ("the Authority") and to Stewardship Ontario (SO).

The letter directs the Authority and SO to submit a proposal for an amended Blue Box Program Plan by February 15, 2018. 

As part of this program, on October 2, the Authority and SO released a joint engagement and communications plan to consult with five key stakeholder groups and Indigenous Peoples. Materials include:

Consultation for Ontario Municipalities & First Nations Communities in 2 Phases

Phase 1: October 2 to November 17, 2017 - webinars and in person meetings for Ontario municipalities and First Nations communities to gather feedback on proposed features of a draft a-BBPP 

Phase 2: December 22, 2017 - draft a-BBPP will be released for written comment with comments due January 15, 2018

SO has posted information concerning invitations to meetings for Municipal and First nations staff, both for attendance in person or by webcast, including:

  • Module 1 discussions - Thursday, October 12 - 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. 
  • Module 2 discussions - Friday, October 27 - 1:30 to 4:00 p.m.

This is your opportunity to get involved and provide input at this important juncture concerning the future of Ontario's Blue Box Recycling system.
