August 2016

Great to see so many ceramics lovers at our Clay Intersections exhibition opening last Thursday. Rod Bamford, Senior Lecturer, School of Design Studies, UNSW opened the exhibition said, ‘Clay Intersections speaks of a celebration of one fundamental aspect of human nature. The desire to create, respect our material world, and to share that passion.'

Many of the works in Clay Intersections are for sale and we have a exhibition shop with additional works by the exhibiting artists plus selected local makers.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to our ADC Audience Survey that closed last week. Lots of great feedback that we will be reflecting on as we develop our new program.

Competition: You could win one of five double passes to the new release Captain Fantastic, a hilarious and touching drama starring Viggo Mortenson as a father raising his six children far from the modern world.  To enter email: hello@australiandesigncentre.com with 'Captain Fantastic' in the subject line with your postal address.  Thanks to Entertainment One for this prize.

The power of making

UPDATE: In January this year we received a major research grant to develop a new touring exhibition. We are exploring the role and impact of making on communities, the environment, wellbeing and Australian craft traditions. Two weeks ago we hosted a research roundtable to discuss these broad ideas with experts in the field including Liz Williamson, Jess Scully, Adam Goodrum, Penny Craswell and Keinton Butler and later in August we head to Adelaide to talk with the team at JamFactory. We look forward to keeping you updated on the project as it progresses!

Catch up with ADC on social media

On the ADC Facebook page it hasn't been all about clay... our most popular stories have been about a delightful interactive outdoor exhibition in Paris, and an article by Susan Cohn in appreciation of the objects we use and live with.  Lots of people liked the story of a 91 yr old filling in a crossword worth $116,000 in a museum display. This video of making pottery dishes in rural Croatia was very popular (and makes your mouth water at the food).

On Instagram we have had two special guests posting images for us, Clay Intersections curator Cath Fogarty and Arts NSW Indigenous Mentor recipient Lucy Simpson
