December 2020 - Special Edition
Congratulations Dr. Reddy on your Retirement!
I congratulate Dr. Reddy on his retirement from MCW and the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. I have had the distinct pleasure to know Dr. Reddy throughout my career, as a PM&R resident, faculty and leader. Dr. Reddy joined MCW in 1977, having been recruited by Dr. John Melvin. During his career, he excelled in managing musculoskeletal conditions, chronic pain syndromes, including fibromyalgia, disability medicine and administrative leadership. During his career, he served as a CARF surveyor, director of PM&R outpatient clinic, and medical director of the Curative Care Network (CCN). He
was honored by the Curative Care Network in 2019 for his outstanding service as medical director of CCN (40+ years) when he was awarded the Elizabeth Upham Davis Award. Elizabeth Upham Davis founded Curative Care Network with a breakthrough vision to better the lives of people with disabilities. He was appointed professor, PM&R, in 2013.
Simply stated, Dr. Reddy is an extremely kind, thoughtful physician and mentor, always “a consummate gentleman” and keen advisor. He strives to make a genuine difference in the world. He has been a continuous advocate for our MCW PM&R department. Dr. Reddy has always served as a partner in advancing MCW PM&R alumni relations in the department and nationally. He “walks the walk” through his generous contributions to the department, including endowing the N. Muni Reddy PM&R Medical student award. In his role as MCW PM&R director of alumni relations, he led our planned giving campaign to support PM&R education and research. He raised over $250,000 for the department through networking with alumni and current faculty! Dr. Reddy has earned his retirement after providing decades of excellent patient care to very challenging patient populations as well as ongoing administrative leadership and mentorship.
We will absolutely miss you, your smile, kindness and warmth, Dr. Reddy! Thank you for your numerous contributions and legacy gifts to the department, for your friendship and ongoing support!

Curative Care Network 100th Anniversary Celebration in 2019
Little did I know, when I interviewed Muni Reddy for the Medical College of Wisconsin PM&R residency in the middle of the 1970s, that I would be recognizing his distinguished career as a faculty member at MCW more than 40 years later.
I was pleased with that residency interview and enthusiastically accepted him into our residency. In particular, I was impressed that he was a member of the Royal College of Physicians of London. We were still a small department but growing, with plans to expand our programs. Even at that interview, I was envisioning Muni joining the department when he completed his training. I thought Muni might become interested in cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation because of his medical background. As it turned out, his clinical interests developed to be closer to mine: chronic pain, musculoskeletal rehabilitation, general rehabilitation and disability evaluation. As I, he remained in academic medicine throughout his career and devoted substantial time to medical
administration. I remember meeting weekly with him when he was associate medical director of the Curative Rehabilitation Center and I was the medical director. His loyalty and continuous service to the MCW PM&R Department and the Curative Rehabilitation Center (now Curative Care Network) have been exemplary.
That interview so long ago led to a lifelong friendship, even though I have been in Philadelphia for 29 years. I value Muni’s personal warmth, loyalty, support and initiatives for continued interactions.
Congratulations, Muni, on a career that has been of significant benefit to innumerable patients and students. I wish you happiness and health in your retirement.

55th PM&R Department Anniversary Gala
It was a great pleasure working with and knowing Dr. Reddy. He is the consummate gentleman, always kind and positive. I found these traits very endearing and I frequently sought his sage advice on departmental matters.
As a physiatrist, he is an excellent clinician and care provider for some of the most challenging patients. Dr. Reddy had a long and productive career at the Medical College of Wisconsin, caring for countless patients and leading the rehabilitation efforts at Curative Care Network when the department was growing and expanding. I am privileged to call Dr. Reddy my colleague and friend. My sincerest best wishes to him and his family in the next phase of their lives. Dr. Tim Dillingham

Congratulations Dr. Waring on your Retirement!
On behalf of the many patients, PM&R faculty, residents and alumni, I offer my congratulations to Dr. Waring on his well-deserved retirement from MCW and clinical practice.
Dr. Waring completed his PM&R residency and spinal cord injury fellowship at University of Michigan. He joined the MCW PM&R faculty in 1998 as an assistant professor and was promoted to associate professor in 2009. Since his faculty appointment in 1998, Dr. Waring served as director of Spinal Cord Injury Center at FMLH. As I reflect upon his multiple contributions to his patients and their families during this time, two special patient populations come to mind: post-polio survivors and those impacted by spinal cord injury. Dr. Waring has been a true PM&R champion for those impacted by disabilities.
Dr. Waring made remarkable contributions to the SCI program and mentored the team through many changes. He championed improved patient outcomes by developing frequent and early follow up care for new SCI patients, increasing outpatient therapy, creating a PM&R outpatient SCI clinic that was accessible five days per week, and increasing SCI medical consultations for those chronic SCI patients admitted to acute medical beds. Dr. Waring was instrumental in adding the patient and family to team conferences, enhancing the continuum of care model and ensuring quality care for those underserved populations, both here and in Lithuania.
His passion for teaching was evident, at the bedside with patients, families, health care workers and with medical student and resident teaching. Dr. Waring served as associate residency program director for the PM&R residency. Nationally, he served on the board of directors for the American Spinal Injury Association (ASIA) and helped develop International Standards Training eLearning Program Motor, Anorectal and Spasticity modules.
Dr. Waring has been a superb SCI clinician, educator, activist, role model, mentor, friend and colleague for so many of us during his career. Words cannot fully express the depth of our gratitude for his service and many contributions, yet we are excited that Dr. Waring can now wear a Hawaiian shirt and sandals EVERY DAY!!
We will miss you! Ho’omaika’i ‘ana (congratulations) and Pomaika’I (good luck)!
Dr. Diane Braza
Dr. Waring is one of the most committed and passionate physiatrists I know. His deep commitment to serving persons with spinal injury and other disabilities is inspiring.
He is a consummate physiatrist, always thinking about how his patients can regain their lives and thrive in their communities. He built a great program at the Medical College of Wisconsin. His long commitment to health equity was greatly appreciated by me and his colleagues. As a teacher and educator, Dr. Waring ensured that our residents learned all they needed to know about neurological rehabilitation of spinal injuries.
Dr. Waring is committed to international rehabilitation and to bringing the proper rehabilitation care to people in low-resource countries. I always looked forward to hearing about his trips to Lithuania. His thoughtful approach to removing barriers and organizing care for people in Lithuania no doubt had great impact. I am proud to call him my friend and colleague and thoroughly enjoyed working with him.
I wish Dr. Waring and his family all the best wishes in their next chapter.
