LAW SCHOOL NEWSDear all, We hosted our second SSLC this week, where the reps helped to set the overall Action Plan for Teaching Excellence on the Law and Business Programmes – the finalised document will be attached to the next newsletter . We also had some really creative and useful discussions about what is going well in the programme and what things could be developed further, ready for the final plans for your second year. We would like to thank your chair Kirty and the Reps Lauren, Linus, Ludovic and Vithujan for making such a positive contribution to the meeting. This week we saw the candidates for the Flamank Law Society take part in the society hustings on the 29th November. There were an excellent selection of candidates who all spoke brilliantly on their manifestos. Please make sure that you vote for the people that you want to be on the committee thus ensuring that your voice is heard. You have until midnight on the 2nd December to cast your vote. This upcoming week will see you all take part in the Employment Tribunals on the 5th and 6th December - Good Luck! We are all very excited to see your hard work come to fruition. The slide below outlines the different interactive sessions that you will be taking part in. Strike Action Unless you receive a direct email from your tutor or lecturer during the strike period, your contact hours will go ahead. Please check your emails for an email sent out by the Vice-Chancellor on the 6th November for further information. If you have any further concerns about the strikes please read the dedicated FAQ site, check the SU Strike information page or email industrialaction@exeter.ac.uk. There will also be informal drop-in sessions with senior staff every day during the strike period. Therefore, if you do have any queries please do attend the following sessions which will be held in the Undergraduate Learning Lounge in Peter Lanyon:
Mooting Competition We are delighted to announce that on the 27th March Flamank Law Society will be hosting their inaugural mooting competition. There will be eight teams eligible for entry. Six of these teams will come from the winners of the moots that we will be hosting prior to the 27th March on the: 9th December, 10th December, 29th January and 11th March. The other two teams will be decided through an application process. There will be three rounds to the competition, with the first two utilising the same case and the final using a different one. The winners of the competition will receive a shield and a take-home trophy. The teams for this event will only consist of two barristers. This will be a fantastic opportunity to be crowned winners of the first Mooting Competition so please make sure that you get involved with the mooting season prior to the 27th March. Upcoming News and Events Mooting Clinic On the 4th December there will be a mooting clinic in the Stella Turk Seminar room. Those taking part on the moots on the 9th and 10th December should attend as this will be an excellent opportunity for you to ask Christian for help and guidance. Flamank Committee Reveal On the 6th December in PL Lecture 2 from 17:00-18:00, the current Flamank committee will be revealing the new committee. Please make sure you attend this event if you are a candidate and if you are a member of the society. Flamank Christmas Soiree Flamank Law Society's Christmas Party will be held on the 9th December at the Palacio Lounge. Clifford Chance SPARK Scheme Clifford Chance SPARK is an award-winning opportunity for first-year students to gain an insider's view into what a career in law can look like. During the five-day paid scheme, you'll experience an intensive schedule of classroom-based activity, time spent shadowing lawyers in CC's practice areas, and a trip to one of their international offices e.g. Brussels, Amsterdam etc. so you can see the global network in practice. It'll be fast-paced, dynamic and packed full of exciting opportunities. After the scheme ends, the very best candidates are invited to apply for a place on a bespoke SPARK Training Contract assessment day. Therefore, you could end up securing a training contract by the end of your first year which would be a fantastic achievement.
