Two New Training Courses for Municipal Staff

CIF is hosting two training courses this fall for municipal staff. Designed by industry experts, the courses offer practical information to manage recycling programs. Staff that complete a course earn a credit for the Best Practices section of the WDO Datacall. Space is limited - please register free-of-charge today.

Courses include:

1. MRF Operation & Preventative Maintenance (PM)
2. Strategic Request for Proposals (RFPs) for Recycling

Dates: Wed., Nov 25 (MRF Operation & PM) & Thurs., Nov. 26 (Strategic RFPs)
Time: 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (continental breakfast, lunch & snacks provided)
Location: In person only - Novotel Vaughan, 200 Bass Pro Mills Drive 
Eligible participants: municipal or First Nations staff

MRF Operation & Preventative Maintenance (PM)
Wed., Nov. 25

  • Review MRF fundamentals; equipment purpose & expected performance 

  • Learn to anticipate replacement & repair needs before equipment failure

  • Learn to plan, budget & carry out your preventative maintenance program

  • In-class plus in-MRF training combines  theory & practice 

Who should attend

  • Municipal staff that plan or carry out preventative maintenance activities 

What's involved

  • Morning in-class, followed by afternoon observation at York Region MRF 
  • Participants to carpool or drive individually from Novotel to MRF
  • PPE (personal protective equipment) required
 
 
 

Strategic RFPs for Recycling
Thurs., Nov. 26

  • Request for Proposal (RFP) results often last for 5+ years - make sure your program receives services at a fair & competitive price
  • Learn to build RFPs that encourage bids & competition
  • Course covers how to:​
    • bundle service requests
    • assess & share risk
    • plan for change (e.g. prices, regs) 
    • create level playing field for bidders

Who should attend

  • Staff who write or administer contracts

  • One full day in-class with brief pre-course readings 
 
 
 
 

Registered But Plans Change?

If you register but plans change - please let us know before November 18 so we can offer your spot to another participant. Cancellations made after November 23 (or no-shows) are subject to a full recovery cost of $125. Costs include materials, venue fees, full day meals & administration.
