June 2008 - Welcome!
The Alumni Affairs team along with Gamma Iota Sigma is proud to announce this years 2nd Alumni Newsletter. This semester proved to be very successful. We hosted many different events, and a few of them were the Beef N’ Beverage, Date Auction, and Math Competition. We also raised a significant amount of money for Neighborhood Bike Works which is a terrific program to help young children. I hope you enjoy this issue, and if you or your company would like to be featured in our next one, please contact Vice President of Alumni Affairs, Vincent Baldino at firstname.lastname@example.org

Awards for Excellence Luncheon
No, those aren’t the plot lines for the latest Hollywood action movies. They’re the realities of the world we live in today, says Martin Sullivan, former president and CEO of American International Group, Inc. (AIG), the world’s leading global insurance and financial services organization.
Professional Exam Passers
For students in the risk management and actuarial science fields, passing exams given by professional societies is of critical importance to their professional development. The Department of Risk, Insurance, and Healthcare Management encourages students to take these professional exams while in school. These rigorous exams are given by various educational organizations in the risk management and actuarial science fields. Gamma Iota Sigma is proud of our students who have passed these exams recently. These include exams for the CEBS, CPCU and ARM designations. In addition, actuarial science majors take exams sponsored by the Society of Actuaries.

Risk Management and Insurance Intern Career Reception
On March 3, 2008, more than 150 students in search of a summer internship attended the Risk Management and Insurance (RMI) intern career reception held in the Great Court of Mitten Hall. Officer and members of Gamma Iota Sigma were completely responsible for planning and executing this event.
The 6th Annual High School Math Competition
On Friday, March 28, 2008, Gamma Iota Sigma held its 6th Annual High School Math Competition. This competition began as a way to promote to both high school students and faculty the Actuarial Science profession, as well as, its corresponding program in Temple University. This was a year of record-breaking: over 100 students were in competition, with monetary prizes totaling $1,000. The students competed in two separate brackets with different examinations; freshmen with sophomores and juniors with seniors.
The 3rd Annual Date Auction
On Thursday, April 10, 2008, Gamma Iota Sigma held its 3rd Annual Date Auction. This event is always one of our best events, both in terms of fund-raising as well as in membership attendance. This year, we raised over $1,200, with all proceeds going to our charity of choice, Neighborhood Bike Works. This year was also the first time we teamed up with another fraternity for the occasion. In this case, our fellow Fox Business School student professional organization Beta Alpha Psi, the Honors Accounting organization, "donated" several of their members to put on the auctioning block.
Stay up-to-date, with what is new, in the post-graduate lives of our Alumni!
