New Adult Outpatient and Lazos Fuertes Building Grand Opening 
Our Adult Outpatient and Lazos Fuertes clinics will have a new home in the heart of the City of Rochester starting July 27!  With this new adult mental health location, we are in an even better position to be able to serve the community. This new building, the largest of its kind in downtown Rochester, will provide state-of-the-art facilities, a central location on 150 North Chestnut Street with nearby bus routes, and increased patient capacity.  A livestreamed ribbon-cutting is tentatively scheduled for July 27th. Celebrating Our Graduates

We are celebrating our 2020 Graduates in our Psychiatry and Psychology training programs! We are so proud to share that our graduates will join the newest generation of leaders in careers in patient care, teaching, scientific research, and administration across the U.S. While we could not celebrate in person this year as a result of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, a virtual graduation ceremony was held with resident and fellow volunteers delivering dinner to the grads. 8th Annual Summer Series Discusses Anti-Racism & Transformation
Our 8th Annual Brown Bag Summer Series, held this year in partnership with the Department of Neurology and Department of Pediatrics, began on July 8th, and presentations will continue on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of July and August. This year’s series is designed to help University employees broaden their understanding of themselves in relation to racism with a focus on how to help us become an anti-racist organization. In addition to these biweekly presentations, small group sharing sessions will be held on the 1st, 3rd, and 5th Wednesdays of July and August with exercises provided at the presentations the week prior. Multi-Year Grant to Study Peer-Led Vaping Prevention Program
“Above the Influence of Vaping," a program engaging 8th and 9th graders to create a school culture in which more students overcome pressures to abuse vaping, is at the center of a new $4 million, five-year grant. Led by Peter Wyman, PhD, this five-year project will study the effectiveness of peer-led efforts to prevent adolescent vaping in schools. READ MORE>>>

Kate Cerulli Selected as Health Policy Fellow
Our very own Catherine Cerulli, JD, PhD, director at the Susan B. Anthony Center, has been named a Health Policy Fellow by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the National Academy of Medicine. Cerulli will spend a year in Washington, DC in a placement within the federal government before returning to Rochester to work on a project that analyzes how courts make determinations about child abuse and neglect. Mark Oldham Receives ACLP 2020 Visiting Professorship
Mark Oldham, MD has been awarded the Academy of Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry’s 2020 Visiting Professorship! As part of this program, Dr. Oldham will be visiting Stanford University next year to promote the understanding and practice of consultation-liaison psychiatry and to increase interest in, and awareness of, consultation-liaison psychiatry. Gloria Baciewicz, MD and Patrick Seche, MS will present in a webinar on July 13, 2020 discussing benefits and strategies of targeted naloxone distribution, focusing on "touchless" training and delivery in rural communities. READ MORE>>>

Family Therapy Training Program Faculty and Supervision Awards
Faculty Teaching and Supervision Awards for our Family Therapy Training Program have been awarded! Typically presented at the Spring banquet honoring the program's Masters, post-degree, and postdoctoral fellows’ graduations, these awards are selected annually by graduates. 

Kim Linde, LMFT has been selected for the Pieter le Roux Excellence in Supervision Award. This award honors a supervisor that demonstrates excellence in teaching and developing new clinicians to serve patients and families as well as sensitivity to cultural diversity. 

Kristin Koberstein, LMFT has been awarded the Susan H. McDaniel Excellence in Teaching Award. This award honors a teaching faculty member who is exceptionally enthusiastic, creative, generous, and energetic about teaching and developing new clinicians to serve patients and families.

Pediatric Behavioral Health Building Ribbon Cutting Now Online

You can also take a peek at some of the rooms which will be used to help meet the critical need for mental health care among children and teens in a virtual tour. 

Opioid Overdose Prevention Trainings Resume for 2020
We're excited to share that monthly in-person Opioid Overdose Prevention Training courses will resume at our 300 Crittenden Blvd. location! Attendees must wear masks and we will be social distancing. Spots are limited to 10 attendees per session. Register for an in-person training here.

  • Several members of Psychiatry wrote an article in NEJM Catalyst on our stand-alone inpatient psychiatry unit with integrated medical support for patients with acute psychiatric illness who have tested positive for Covid-19. 
  • Kevin Brazill, DO and Telva Olivares, MD spoke with WXXI News on our Behavioral Health COVID unit providing psychiatric services for those experiencing COVID-19 symptoms.
  • Kenya Malcolm, PhD spoke with WHEC TV on how racism can impact children and teens, as well as how parents can navigate conversations about racism.
  • Michael Scharf, MD spoke on the Bob Lonsberry Show on WHAM 1180 about the mental health impacts of being away from school on youth.
