NEWS FROM DEB’S DESK

The QFSR Skills team has met many clubs over the last few months as part of the Department of National Parks, Sport and Racing’s Sport and Recreation Conference plan, prepare, perform.  Thank you to all those clubs who attended our workshops on  Governance - Club Committees Roles and Responsibilities and Governance (Analyse Financial Report and Budgets).  We have engaged with many club volunteers from Toowoomba, Cairns, Townsville, Emerald, Hervey Bay, and the South East.  The workshops were well received and we have met and made some new exciting contacts for future projects.

Since our last newsletter I am very proud to announce that QFSR Skills Alliance has been successful in the Skilling Queenslanders for Work funding round 2 for 2016-2017 to continue our various SQW projects.  In particular, the Building Strong Working Women project aims to assist 45 long term unemployed women and women wishing to enter or re-enter the workforce find employment.  The project provides participants with training in a Certificate II in Business and wrap around support including assistance with job search, interview techniques and resume writing.   It is a 12 week program run over 3 days per week (Tuesdays to Thursdays) 9:30am to 2:30pm.  There are a number of state sporting organisations who are offering work experience for the women as part of the program.

QFSR Skills Alliance has also been busy promoting our consultancy services.  Please contact us to discuss the many options we have on offer to provide training, webinars, advice and support for your organisation.  Nothing is off the table and QFSR Skills Alliance is able to adapt our products and services, including co-branding opportunities, to suit your organisation’s needs.

As I write this, we are in the rebuilding stage of another “one in hundred year” weather event.  To all our organisations in North Queensland and South East Queensland who have been affected by the cyclone and flooding we have been thinking of you and hope you, your staff and members have remained safe.  There is information below about disaster recovery funding that is available.  QFSR Skills Alliance is also looking at possible projects through the Skilling Queenslanders for Work Community Recovery package to assist clubs who have been affected.
