Dr. Orr and I participate in weekly ACT (accountable care team) meetings for the 5NE rehab unit with various rehab & hospital staff. Our focus is on quality improvement for various hospital metrics, see the pdf attachment (table with mostly green dots & 1 red triangle). Note that our 5NE rehab unit has not had a pressure injury, CAUTI or CLABSI in ~12 months. We also work on readmissions, see below comment. In addition, the goal was revised from 15.1% to 11.5% by the ACT Steering Committee. However, the January readmission rate dropped to 6.5% with no 72-hour readmission and three 30-day readmissions. ![]() ![]() Dr. Sayko and I are working on a LOS (length of stay) project which is a national metric that FH is working on hospital wide. We meet 2x/month with various hospital personnel and have instituted several processes. Results so far are promising, see below (reduction of “time from hospital admission to acute IPR admission by ~3 days since 7/2019 through 12/2019 (compared to 1/2018 through 6/2019). ![]() Dr. Sayko is working on an individual process with the general rehab inpatient consult service: I also want to mention that beginning February 4, a focused team (lead by Linda Foglia and Dr. Sayko) will push to have an IPR decision within 2 HOURS of a PMR consult! Once this tremendous effort gets implemented, we should begin to see further downward momentum in our timing metrics. Keep up the great work team! In September 2019, I provided an update regarding the work that our Inpatient Rehab Facility Planning group has been engaged in as part of the Acute Care Planning (ACP) initiative. Our proposal to the ACP group included consolidation of IPR beds from CMH and FMLH and moving these 43 beds off the hospital campuses to help alleviate capacity issues. We requested the approval to explore a freestanding rehabilitation hospital, which includes a growth strategy for IPR. To recap our progress, we have continued to work diligently on the development of the business plan. During the research required to develop this plan, interesting options for sites and structure of the rehabilitation hospital emerged. We are dedicated to thoroughly evaluating these options to bring forward a recommendation that best meets the needs of our patients, providers and staff. This has required some additional work from the planning team, resulting in more time required for completion of the plan. ![]() Chief Residents 2020-2021 We recently had the selection for chief residents for the department of PM&R for the upcoming 2020-21 academic year. We had five excellent candidates submit their names for consideration. All had great ideas and well-thought-out messages. Any of them would have done a great job in this role, and I want to thank all of them for submitting their names and ideas for consideration. We held the selection with input from all of our current residents and faculty via our associate residency directors. After the final tally, I would like to welcome Drs. Charlotte Ball and Nick Donohue as our incoming chief residents for the 2020-21 academic year. Please join me in congratulating them in their new positions. I also want to take this time to thank our outgoing chief residents, Drs. Ryan Dunn and Meagan Jozwiak. Thank you for your hard work and dedication over the past year!
