CPC Project Gateway Hosts College Panel For Prospective StudentsCPC Project Gateway held its last college workshop of the year on December 28th with prospective students and alumni of CPC's youth programs. Current college students who have participated in CPC afterschool programs answered questions about college life pre-pandemic and now, including school's safety protocols, the application process, and choosing a major. CPC Queens Youth Win Contest SkyView Center On Wednesday, January 5th, we received news that CPC Queens won the best Christmas tree at SkyView Center in Flushing. CPC Queens and youth community members volunteered to decorate a Christmas tree in collaboration with Auntie Anne's and The Shops at Skyview. CPC Early Childhood, Afterschool, and Special Needs Programs Participate in Holiday Toy DriveCPC community members were the recipients of generous donations from our partners during a holiday toy drive. CVS collected hundreds of toys for distribution to children and families at CPC's Early Childhood Centers, School-Ages Child Care programs, and Special Needs programs. MetroPlus also donated 125 toys to PS 2 for their holiday celebration.Presenting Our 2021 Annual Report This year's annual report theme, "Building Relief, Recovery, and Resilience," was chosen as an extension of our values and commitment to putting our communities first. Over 125,000 New Yorkers have more enriching and fulfilling lives—even amid a pandemic—thanks to you. CPC Nan Shan Senior Center Continues to Distribute Meals CPC Nan Shan Senior Center, in partnership with UnitedHealthcare, distributed meals to more than 200 seniors. CPC Brooklyn Community Services Continues Weekly Pantry Fresh Produce Distribution CPC Brooklyn Community Services and GrowNYC continue to distribute fresh produce to our community members each week. COMMUNITY & ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENTWe empower New Yorkers to represent and to advocate for themselves and their communities because their leadership is essential for positive—and lasting—social change. We engage with individuals to plan and develop their career paths because professional success is critical for economic independence. CPC Quoted in Washington Post on Our City, Our Vote CPC staff member and former Adult Literacy participant Jinquan Zhang was quoted in an article in the Washington Post about new city council legislation that would give immigrants who are not U.S. citizens the right to vote for mayor and other key municipal positions. CPC Joins APA VOICE in Push For Unity Map The APA VOICE Redistricting Task Force unanimously urges Governor Hochul and the New York State Legislature to adopt the Unity Map that accurately reflects the 2020 Census date and the tremendous growth in the Asian population in New York City. CPC Presents at PEARL Conference CPC held a panel discussion titled, "Resiliency and Community Building in Times of Crisis," focused on the practices community members developed to confront the pandemic and a disturbing rise in anti-Asian hate amid a national reckoning. CPC Statement on Assembly Member Kim’s Report The Chinese-American Planning Council Home Attendant Program Inc. (CPCHAP) – a subsidiary of the Chinese-American Planning Council Inc. (CPC) – provides critical, life-saving home care services to Medicaid patients, who cannot afford such services otherwise. We have long called for the State to replace 24-hour home care cases with two 12-hour split shifts, which would be best for both workers and patients.
