Hello there!

It's Christmas week, which means my European friends (and family) will cozy up in front of a Christmas tree or a fireplace, while my Aussie friends and I are headed for the beach (37 degrees forcasted for Monday!).

The Modern Desk will be taking a rare week off next week, but we'll be back on Tuesday, Jan 3rd. Until then, I wish everyone a restful break from their screens and a joyful end to 'the worst year ever, until next year'. (Good read!)

This Weekʼs Line-Up

Calendar decal for your wall
01

Put your weekly to-do list on your wall: this wall decal comes with a chalkboard-like surface and room for brief notes for every day of the week.

Short reads for creative entrepreneurs
02

The always inspiring Christopher Murphy has started a new publishing venture called Tiny Books: 'Short, sharp books for creative entrepreneurs that explore the design of business and the business of design.' I'm honoured Chris asked me to write the foreword of his first book 'Start'. You can get 33% off with the discount code MARS.

Portable solar array and battery
03

Kogalla is a portable solar array with integrated battery storage. It folds away nicely when you don't need it. According to its Indiegogo page, 'in full sun the Kogalla Solar Storage Bank charges in 3-4 hours and holds enough power to charge your phone 3-4 times'.

Image compressor for Mac
04

I've been using ImageOptim to reduce file sizes of images for web for many years. Squash by Realmac looks like a great alternative though. I particularly like their auto-convert (PSD to JPG) and batch-processing features.

Plywood furniture
05

Plywood seems to be all the rage these days. Furniture made with CMC machines can be manufactured locally and flatpacked easily. The Chair 1 is the first piece of office furniture from Utile. Desk and shelf seem to be in the making.

Find and delete user accounts
06

Do you sometimes feel uncomfortable with all the private data stored in various web accounts you no longer use? Deseat.me searches through your emails to find all the accounts you signed up for in the past and compiles a list with links to where you can delete said accounts.

I have no data yet. It is a capital mistake to theorize before one has data. Insensibly one begins to twist facts to suit theories, instead of theories to suit facts.
