Invitation to trial MetEye

GWRDC Innovators' Network members are invited to trial one of the Bureau of Meteorology’s latest and most advanced forecast viewing platforms, MetEye.

MetEye is a map viewer that builds on the Bureau’s maps to show current and forecast weather on one map. MetEye will provide a whole new way to view weather information and will allow growers to:

• quickly access local weather through a simple search
• combine radar, cloud and observations
• pan and zoom to local areas anywhere in Australia
• display more detail for each day in point and click displays
• view detailed rain forecasts nationwide for the week ahead

The product is still being finalised and this trial will allow the Bureau to develop the most efective service before the full release.

More information is available at http://www.bom.gov.au/australia/meteye/

Other resources

  • NWGIC Videos

The National Wine and Grape Industry Centre (NWGIC) has produced the following short videos to provide the Australian wine industry with practical management options.

  • Non-Botrytis bunch rot
  • Micro-oxygenation of red wine
  • White wine spoilage: the impact of light

These videos can be viewed here

  • New pest animals app for smart phones

Smart phone users can now access the latest information about Australia’s worst pest animals via the new ‘Field Guide to Pest Animals of Australia’ app, produced by the Invasive Animals CRC.

The app contains detailed species descriptions, photo galleries, maps, control techniques and quick links to useful pest control resources, as well as audio calls and photos of footprints, tracks, and droppings, making it easier to identify pest animals in the field.

The app can be downloaded free of charge from the Apple App Store.

  • Can you help enhance the Agrochemical App?

The AWRI Agrochemical Search app gives growers access to ‘Dog Book’ Agrochemical information on-the-go via mobile phones or tablets. The user selects the target pest or disease and the growth stage of the vine to receive a list of recommended active constituents and products registered in Australia. It can be downloaded for free from iTunes or Google Play

An upgrade of the app to give further assistance to growers is now underway. To make sure this upgrade is as useful as possible, feedback from current app users is essential. AWRI asks you to complete this very short survey and have your say about the types of functions or information that would help you make spray decisions.

  • What does drumMUSTER mean for Australian rural chemical users?

The drumMUSTER service benefits both the user, the environment, industry and the wider community by providing a reliable, cost effective and sustainable option for the recycling of empty eligible agvet chemical containers.

Working hand-in-hand with local councils and other collection agencies, drumMUSTER has established collection facilities all over Australia and since its inception in 1998 the program has recycled over 20 million containers.

Once the containers have been collected, they are recycled into re-usable products such as wheelie bins, road signs, fence posts and bollards.
