What's Happening This Week

Will the NFIP Sink or Swim?

During the past year the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) has already been reauthorized by Congress numerous times and once again another deadline approaches on July 31.

All signs point to another short extension, but there are a few complications. Many would like to see significant reforms upon extension, but given that there are only a few days until it lapses it is unlikely we’ll see any reforms.

A bill has been filed with some modest reforms and a slightly longer extension. However, it is unlikely to pass as the Senate would prefer to make more substantive reforms and enact a significant extension.

With just 11 days until statutory authorization for the National Flood Insurance Program is set to expire, Congress has no obvious plan to extend it. While the U.S. House passed a comprehensive five-year reauthorization bill last November, making a number of important reforms, the Senate has responded by doing approximately nothing.

Due Date

Tuesday, August 14 is the final due date for:

  • Second quarter affidavits, and
  • Second quarter invoice payments.

All items can be filed and paid in your SLIP account.

Invoices and billing reports are available in SLIP. ACH payments can be made by clicking on Pay Invoices from the Invoicing tab in your SLIP account.
