URGENT! HFI Reservists Needed!!

Dear HFI Reservist,

I was sitting in my office some years ago, and looking through a magazine I noticed a Red Cross advertisement with the title: “WHY WOULD ANYONE VOLUNTEER FOR TROUBLE?” This was an appeal for disaster volunteers. The scene depicted was obviously that of a hurricane wreaking havoc on a community, and I said out loud to myself, “I wish I had come up with that line!”

One of your fellow Reservists, in a recent Facebook post, answered that question for herself after she responded to the plight of Hurricane Laura survivors in Lake Charles, LA. (Check it out at https://www.facebook.com/subatson/posts/10157155103572001) In a nutshell, it’s not the hard work, heat or sleeping on a gym floor that is attractive. It’s the overall expression and experience of grace, mercy, love and compassion shared among team members, survivors and Father God. A challenging and life-changing encounter that leaves you exhausted — yet anticipating with excitement the next “opportunity” to put your love of God into compassionate action.

By this time next week, unless we witness an increase in volunteer numbers, we will have to wind down Hope Force International’s (HFI) emergency relief operations. Some Reservists served early on, then went home for a respite and are now returning again; the draw of compassion, coupled with the great need, is that strong.

Won’t you please consider joining us in this meaningful expression of kindness to people in dire need?  In fact, join us and bring a friend!  At this stage in the HFI response, non-Reservists who are recommended by you can participate. Perhaps your church or business would like to bring a team?  Remember, this comes with a WARNING – serving like this is addictive…and once you serve, you will want to do it again!

If you can help, please: contact Connie Hasty immediately to dialogue about details. deployment@hopeforce.org

To those who have already served or have donated, thank you! For those unable to go, please pray and or give financially to HFI’s Hurricane Laura relief fund.
