College start and finish times 2015

As part of our Model for Learning the College is committed to providing programs that develop the Mind, Body, Heart and Spirit of every student and an essential part of this is our wellbeing program.

In 2014 the time that was allocated to the Learning Matters and Wellbeing program was scattered in small pockets of time across the week.  To provide a greater allocation of time for our wellbeing program the College has reviewed the timetable and structure of the school day. We are also committed to providing time for increasing our co-curricular learning opportunities at the College, as part of our next Strategic Plan.

Message from the Principal

Thank you to parents, staff and Council members for attending the Strategic Plan meeting last Thursday.  It was a great way to hear from the community ways in which the College can pursue our vision of being a world class school, known for innovation, collaboration and engagement, where our students’ potential soars, because we nurture and challenge them to know themselves and achieve their personal best.

This month we have reflected and celebrated what has been achieved by the students in our care.  Last week on Friday we had a fabulous evening at the Year 10 Graduation Dinner and students, parents and staff celebrated the journey through Middle School with style, dancing the night away!  The journey for our Class of 2014 students has come to an end.  They have completed their exams and on Wednesday night at the Valedictory Dinner we had a final celebration of our partnership with this outstanding group of students.    We wish them well, good health, happiness and many adventures in the next chapter of their lives!

Next Friday we will celebrate the Junior School journey of our Year 6 students, and I am sure it will be an enjoyable occasion.

This weekend our HPV team will be competing in the RACV  Energy Breakthrough at Marybourough.  We wish the riders, pit crew, staff, parents  and visitors best wishes for an exciting weekend and look forward to hearing the results!

Year 11 student Kathryn Brooks participated in the Victorian All Schools Track and Field Championships on Saturday 8 November.

Kathryn represented Kingswood College in the U18 Women's Javelin and won Gold with a throw of 49.32m ahead of Madeline Woods of Mentone Girls Grammar (32.40m) and Chloe Robertson of Cathedral College Wangaratta (31.73m).

She progresses to the Australian All Schools Championships, representing Victoria, which will be held in Adelaide from 5-7 December 2014.

In August she was selected in the Athletics Australia U19 Talent Squad and attended a four-day camp at the Australian Institute of Sport in September where she participated in training and mentoring sessions with past Commonwealth Games and Olympic athletes. She is looking forward to another camp with Athletics Australia in January at Melbourne University.

Kathryn is most appreciative of the support of Box Hill Athletics Club and particularly her coach, Commonwealth Games Decathlete, Steve Cain.

Congratulations Kathryn.

My New York city marathon experience

After the big plane trip with Oscar and Nicholas and my biggest supporter, Kristy, we landed in the Big Apple on the Wednesday night, three days before the race. Due to taking sleeping tablets, I was on NYC time zone within a day. Shame it took the boys four!

On the Friday I had my first unforgettable experience – I ran through Central Park whilst chatting away to Robert De Castella, brother of my fantastic running coach, Anthony. He was over there with his Indigenous Marathon Project (IMP) group of ten indigenous participants. I met ‘Digger’ and Jane, 60 something’s from Australia, over there for their 134th and 137th marathons!
