Dear Friend

It has been a challenging start to the year for so many, with the bushfires over summer and now the Coronavirus (COVID-19) travelling the globe.

Understandably, we have been receiving a lot of enquiries about the Coronavirus and the impending flu season, and what to do if you have asthma or another respiratory condition.

Read on for information on how to minimise your exposure or what to do if you become ill and if you have any concerns, please freecall 1800 ASTHMA (1800 278 462). Now, more than ever, we need people to understand what it means to have asthma, both in the short and long-term, and consider how we all have a role in keeping each other safe.

Asthma WA remains focused on our mission to educate people on the seriousness of asthma, promote strong asthma management and provide the tools to reduce the risk of a life-threatening asthma attack. None of which would be possible without the support of our community.

Thank you for your ongoing support, with gratitude and best wishes,

Donna Rendell
Chief Executive Officer, Asthma WA

School asthma-ready checklist

We’re half-way through Term One and by now, we hope the nerves have settled and children are back into the swing of things for the school year. One in nine Australians have asthma, so chances are there is at least one student with asthma in every classroom. If you have a child with asthma, have you spoken to their teacher and shared with them our Asthma-Ready Classroom Checklist? It is a great reference tool for both parent, student and teacher to guide you through the steps to understanding asthma and creating a safe and supportive environment for children with asthma.

HBF Run for a Reason – will you support us?

Have you heard? It’s almost time for the HBF Run for a Reason!

Taking place on Sunday 24 May 2020, will you run for Asthma WA?

Here are some reasons for supporting Asthma WA:

1. We are a leading provider of asthma education services in WA working closely with children and adults, families, schools, health professionals, hospitals, sporting clubs and even prisons!

2. We save lives, helping more than 5,000 West Aussies each year to understand their individual asthma and reduce the risk of a life-threatening asthma attack.

3. Our Activ8 for Asthma sports program ensures everyone has the support and encouragement they need to be active in their sport of choice. Asthma shouldn't hold you back, nor should you be held back because you have asthma.

4. We are a passionate and dedicated team, determined to make a real difference to the daily lives of people with asthma and their families.

5. Did we mention we are from WA and we've been here for more than 55 years?

Not a runner? That’s ok! Walkers are welcome and consider donating to one of our runners – every little bit counts and also spurs us along!
