Christmas pause for Woolston Village upgradeHappy holidays from the Woolston Village upgrade team. There's lots going on around the Village and over the past few weeks we've been making progress on the south side of Ferry Road, laying the beautiful new eel pavers, setting up the Kea Crossing outside St Anne's School and installing the new road crossing signal poles near Maronan Street. We've completed the drainage work on the corner of Portman Street and installed three new tree pits. We'll pave this area after Christmas, once our paving team are back on deck, and for now, we'll lay asphalt to make it safe. On behalf of the team, we wish you a safe and happy Christmas and

Beware algal blooms in Christchurch ponds and wetlandsPeople and their pets are being urged to avoid stormwater ponds and wetlands in Christchurch as they could contain the potentially toxic algae, cyanobacteria. The algae typically presents as dark brown or black mats in the water. Pets that show signs of illness after coming into contact with algal mats should be taken to a vet immediately. Our stormwater basins provide new wetland habitats for our native flora and fauna to flourish, including endangered and protected bird species. You can walk your dog around the basins, but please be mindful these wetlands are home to native animals and ensure your dog doesn’t chase the wildlife. Evenings best time for beach walks with your dogDog owners are being reminded that on summer days parts of Christchurch and Banks Peninsula’s popular swimming beaches are off-limits to unleashed dogs.
