Lyla Nsouli

It's been a busy few months on a number of fronts

New Grants Approved

The Foundation has approved two new grants so far this quarter and is finalizing documentation on a third one.

Pharma-Academic Pilot Study ($67,000 Grant)

The Lyla Nsouli Foundation is proud to announce the award of a US$67,000 pilot grant to Dr. Sakir ‘Hume’ Gultekin, Neuropathologist and Associate Professor of Pathology, Oregon Health & Science University.  In this pilot study, Dr. Gultekin will examine a new set of cell surface receptors in diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma (DIPG) to determine whether their co-expression matches a profile consistent with novel  biologic targets being developed by a potential pharmaceutical partner.  While at the earliest stage of preclinical development, it is hoped that the novel targets and unique therapeutics might lead to a clinical trial for children with DIPG in the foreseeable future.

Due to confidentiality provisions, disclosure of the potential pharmaceutical partner is not permitted at this time.

DIPG Collaborative ($50,000 Commitment)

The Lyla Nsouli Foundation will be participating as a Foundational Leadership Partner on the prestigious international DIPG Collaborative. Created in 2011, the DIPG Collaborative is an innovative, global association of foundations unified with the mission of efficiently funding and inspiring cancer research for the ultimate “homerun” cure for cancer.

The DIPG Collaborative funds the most interesting projects and has recently funded the international DIPG Registry, a collaborative effort by physicians and researchers from North America, Europe, and Australia to centralize and standardize the collection of clinical data and tumor samples from DIPG patients. The goal of this initiative is to support innovative research and ultimately find a cure for DIPG.
