JuneTEENth Festival launches Sacramento Summer of Youth Safety and Opportunity

Header

As part of Sacramento’s Juneteenth celebration, the Black Child Legacy Campaign hosted the JuneTEENth Festival for youth at Cesar Chavez Park on June 15. The festival included a spoken word competition, live entertainment, food trucks and art labs, including a graffiti wall, breakdancing and art demonstrations. The event provided an opportunity for young people to learn about health, education and employment opportunities in the community during the summer, when they often have more free time that can lead to at-risk behaviors. The event was part of Sacramento’s 15th Annual Juneteenth celebration in honor of Freedom Day when African-American slaves were emancipated.
