The Huffington Post Calls Out Oregon Bank Fees

Oregon’s fee-riddled contract with U.S. Bank to disperse child support and unemployment benefits via a “ReliaCard” is the subject of a front-page business section article today in the nation’s most popular news site, The Huffington Post. Treasurer Ted Wheeler is slated to renegotiate Oregon’s contract sometime this month, and will hopefully come back with a deal that doesn’t include so many punitive charges for Oregonians – which currently include penalties for using an ATM more than twice a month, even though unemployment benefits are distributed each week. As EFO's head explains in the article:

"'The big banks have actually figured out a way to make unemployed workers a profit center, one that only grows as things get worse,' said Angela Martin, executive director of Economic Fairness Oregon."

If you're a U.S. Bank or other big bank customer, take a stand for those using the ReliaCard and against big bank fees and move your money to a financial institution that treats customers with respect and integrity, rather than constantly scheming up new ways to charge them more.

To support this effort, we unveiled our Move Your Money website last week, and it's also why we want to hear from you! If you’re participating in National Bank Transfer Day this Saturday, November 5th, please take a few moments to tell us why via e-mail or a quick video (easily shot with any smartphone) uploaded to our bank break-up channel.
