Hurricane Eta: Situation Report #2

November 30, 2020

Southern Mexico has been severely impacted by Hurricane Eta.  Though the rain has stopped, flood waters continue to plague the state of Tabasco.  Hope Force International Mexico, led by Zalathiel Rodriguez, continues to engage on the ground with other agencies and local churches to provide relief to the thousands affected.

An example of the impact can be seen in the Casa de Oracion Church that suffered over three feet of water in its auditorium and classrooms, with 800 chairs among what was lost.  Despite their own suffering, this church has been actively providing relief in the area to many families.  It is a demonstration of the Church in action, coming together for the benefit of the whole community.

Zalathiel shares, “We are praying that the waters begin to go down in these vulnerable communities.  At that point, we will assist families in cleaning out and sanitizing their homes.”  Already, 600 bottles of chlorine, sanitizer, and household cleaning supplies have been delivered to the area in preparation for the long haul of mucking out these homes.  But Hope Force hasn’t stopped there in providing relief.  New clothing items have been delivered to the children in the area, and many supplies for families have made their way to the Macuspana Shelter.  “We will keep supporting vulnerable people within flood areas, as this time of suffering from the flooding has added to the ongoing struggle of the pandemic.  Many are without a means to generate income.  The need is great.”  Now, as winter sets in, many are left with wet, moldy mattresses from the storm.  Zalathiel shared that Hope Force Mexico will be assisting in providing these for the most vulnerable  along with warm blankets for the elderly and children.

With so many having lost everything, Hope Force Mexico is positioned to provide much needed relief in this area.  Please join us in praying for the survivors of this horrific storm, and for our Hope Force responders as they put their love of God into compassionate action.
