As is its tradition, the Virginia Festival of the Book announces in the fall just a few programs planned for 2015. Tickets for each of the four programs listed in this newsletter go on sale Thursday, September 25, 9:00 AM, on the Festival website, vabook.org

Of course, Festival organizers will continue its commitment to providing 200 free programs to readers of all ages and interests throughout Charlottesville and Albemarle County. So keep visiting the website for up-to-date information. The complete schedule will be available online early 2015.

Leadership Breakfast with Beth Macy

 

The March 18 Leadership Breakfast at the Charlottesville Omni features Virginia journalist Beth Macy, author of Factory Man: How One Furniture Maker Battled Offshoring, Stayed Local – and Helped Save an American Town. The story, which centers around Bassett, Virginia and the Bassett factories, is a uniquely Virginia one with international and national implications. Playtone Prouductions, headed by Tom Hanks, recently obtained the broadcasting rights for the book.  Individual tickets are $40 each. Reserved tables of ten tickets with signage and recognition are available for $500. Copies of Factory Man can be purchased at the same time as the tickets with pickup beginning in February.

Luncheon with Frances Mayes

Frances Mayes, author of international bestsellers Under the Tuscan Son, Bella Tuscany and Every Day In Tuscany, will speak at the March 19 Luncheon. Her newest book Under Magnolia: A Southern Memoir, is her personal story of southern roots, growing up in Fitzgerald, Georgia, fleeing to California and Tuscany, and then returning to the settle in the south once again. The Luncheon is at the Charlottesville Omni and tickets are $60.

Stories Connect Us: An Evening with Kate DiCamillo

“Stories Connect Us: An Evening with Kate DiCamillo” will be held the evening of March 19 at the Culbreth Theater. Kate DiCamillo was selected by the Library of Congress and the Children’s Book Council as the current National Ambassador of Young People’s Literature. She is a two-time Newbery Award recipient for A Tale of Despereaux and Flora and Ulysses, which will be released in paperback just in time for the Festival. Tickets at the Culbreth Theater Box Office are $5 each, general seating.

Crime Wave Brunch with Karin Slaughter

 Karin Slaughter headlines the March 21 Crime Wave Brunch at the Charlottesville Omni. Slaughter is the #1 internationally bestselling author of sixteen novels, including the Will Trent series, the Grant County series, and her newest, a standalone set in Atlanta in 1974, Cop Town. She has sold more than 30 million copies of her books, and is published in 32 languages. Tickets are $40 each and copies of Cop Town can be purchased at the same time as the tickets with pickup beginning in February.
