Hail Hot Bottlers!

As this newsletter flies into your inbox, I am online with Tim Rice the lyric legend, interviewing him for the Media Lunch Club's podcast.  This is a great way to start any week, but imagine my glee when preparing for the chat, I discovered that amongst his litany of lyrical triumphs, he wrote the lyrics to All Time High for James Bond's Octopussy? Surely the glossiest icing on the tastiest cake. And the music video is a trip down memory lane, albeit in an old-school-soft-focus-billowing-drapes sort of way.

Listen to previous episodes of the Media Lunch Club podcast here and keep an eye out for Tim Rice in the coming weeks.

A GLASS WITH...

Back to my own podcast, A Glass With...and this week's episode is fresh out today with presenter Angelica Bell.  Ding dong! I was inspired by our chat where we discuss the joy of fizzy Moscato, her triumphant victory on Celebrity Masterchef and her career in broadcasting.  You can listen now via all the podcast platforms or at aglasswith.com.

SATURDAY KITCHEN

If you missed the larks we had on Saturday Kitchen at the weekend, you can watch again on BBC iPlayer where you'll also find the recipes and wines I chose to match. Tune in for more high jinks and serious cooking this Saturday 4th July when I'll be matching wines with fantastic recipes from Jason Atherton and joined by guest Katherine Jenkins via videolink.

VALUE VINO

As the lockdown starts to lift and we are looking forward to restaurants and pubs opening on Saturday, I am sending all my very best wishes and a huge fistbump to my friends in the hospitality industry who will be flinging their doors open once again.  In the meantime, here are this week's Value Vinos from Romania and beyond for your delectation:

Sorcova Pinot Grigio 2019 (12%) Waitrose £7.79 This Romanian white wine is as scented and delicate as a garland of lemon blossom. There’s a hint of something exotic here too, gorgeous white wine for an all-round summer sip.

Viñalba Finca La 70 2018 (14.5%) £9 Co-Op. Sleek, defined pure fruit, fine firm tannin, good grip, lush and plush. For under ten quid this is all the red wine you’ll ever need. Get the barbecue on and roar with glee.

Tesco Finest Cotes de Gascogne 2019 (11.5%) £6.50. Astonishing value for a white wine so sharp it might actually slice your mind off. Big impact zing here - serve ice cold for the Viñalba surge of grapefruit hailstones in an Arctic blizzard.

Sorcova Pinot Noir 2019 (12.5%) Waitrose £7.79. Raspberry strobing with blueberry! Fleshy, supple Pinot Noir that feels like proper disco juice. Keep the party swinging and get those tiptoes tapping with this romper from Romania.

La Petite Laurette du Midi Rosé 2019 (13% Co-Op £8.50. Easy rosé. Pair with shellfish, crab, or just pour for a light, bright, fruity summery rosé. Crisp with a pleasing scented flourish.

Finally, if you've been watching my Isolation Diary on Mail + you'll know I set myself the lockdown challenge to record and release a single.  Well I did! You can see how I set about it on last week's episode. The track is called Snow on the Borderline and is released this Friday 3rd July on Spotify, iTunes, TikTok, Instagram and the rest.  Download and enjoy!

Have a fabulous week, stay safe, drink well, keep in touch.
