Japan's Hayabusa2 spacecraft snapped pictures of the asteroid Ryugu while flying alongside it two years ago. The spacecraft later returned rock samples from the asteroid to Earth

In what could be a significant finding on the solar system, asteroid Ryugu seems to have lost much of its water content before being fully formed. That's the conclusion of Brown planetary scientist Ralph Milliken and senior research associate Takahiro Hiroi, using a Japanese mission's data. Read more.

 
 
 

 Resuming Research

 

Resuming research requests for the spring semester are being reviewed. All previously approved plans may continue. For new plans or requests to change a plan, PIs must include an updated list of in-person lab personnel to include full name, position, essential designation status and degree of contact. Annual Conflict of Interest Cycle Kickoff: February 10
Faculty and researchers who are required to complete an annual conflict of interest (COI) disclosure electronically in InfoEd will receive an email prompting them to report their activities and interests from calendar year 2020.

New IRB Policy
The Policy on the Authority, Appointment Procedures, and Roles and Responsibilities of the Institutional Review Board is for appointed members and consultants to understand the authority, roles, and responsibilities of IRB service.

License Now Required for Academic Conferences in Cuba
Brown faculty, students, and staff wishing to attend a professional meeting or conference in Cuba, will now need to apply for a specific license from the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC). See here for details.

Biogen “Golden Ticket” for Startup from Justin Fallon’s Lab
A startup based on research by Justin Fallon and Ashley Webb, Bolden Therapeutics, recently won the “Golden Ticket” award from BioGen.

Patent Award: Lighting and Circadian Rhythm
Disturbances in sleep regulation often play a role in industrial and engineering disasters. Brown and Bradley Hospital received a US Patent for Eliza Van Reen’s invention of a lighting system for circadian control and performance enhancement. Read more.
