Research

--------------------

As a partner with Roger Dudley and the Institute of Church Ministry. CYE will be featuring research in the area of youth and young adult ministry.

The following information is additional findings to the preliminary report of the North American Division-wide study of youth and young adults that was given in the April and June 2012 411 Newsletters.

Allow youth and young adults to establish and direct their own ministries in the church:

  • Great Idea - 31%
  • Seems Like a Good Idea - 39%
  • Unsure About It - 27%
  • Not a Good Idea - 3%

Place youth in charge of church web and social media services - where they tend to excel:

  • Great Idea - 39%
  • Seems Like a Good Idea - 36%
  • Unsure About It - 20%
  • Not a Good Idea - 5%

Are you part of a closely knit small group or Sabbath school class that helps you grow spiritually?

  • Yes - 71%
  • No - 29%

Are you a member of the church board at your local church?

  • Yes - 22%
  • No - 78%

Do you currently attend an Adventist university, college, academy or high school?

  • Yes - 19%
  • No - 81%

It seems to me that these last two figures are especially troubling. Less than one-fourth of these youth are included in church administration, yet we are expecting them to be prepared to take over the leadership of the church.

The picture also looks grim for Adventist education. While many of these youth may have completed their formal educaiton, we can assume that the majority are being educated in non-Adventist and, most likely, in non-Christian schools.
