For the past 40 years, the SDWC has been an incubator for radical, socially engaged thought for feminist thinkers on Brown’s campus. Our symposium will discuss the activist history of the Center as well as the different ways SDWC and Brown alumnae have put feminist theory into action. We will have two panels: The first traces the history of activism at the Center and the second explores the unique academic career trajectories of Brown doctorates involved at the Center.
The keynote speaker for the event will be Rinku Sen ‘88, the President and Executive Director of Race Forward and the Publisher of Colorlines.com. Sen is a leading figure in global racial justice and advocacy work across a spectrum of issues concerning the politics of identity. Obtaining her degree in Women’s Studies and active at the Brown Center for Students of Color (formerly the Third World Center), Sen has dedicated her career to activism as a writer, policy maker, media innovator, and cultural worker.
The Symposium will be held on March 14th from 9AM-5PM. A complete schedule will be available soon with a link to register.
