Two new surveys of affordability and housing stresses combine to paint a bleak picture for low-income households wanting to rent a house in Australian cities. Almost nowhere in our capital cities can low-income households – and those on average incomes in Sydney – afford the median housing rent. Mapping rental vulnerability reveals households are under strain in regional areas too.
And a new report shows that even though there are new units being built close to jobs in our CBDs, they’re in suburbs those on moderate incomes simply can’t afford.
