To download your certificate you must be logged into the subscriber section Nutrition Requirements for OSHC Aged Children and AdolescentsElement 2.1.3 - Healthy Lifestyle Assessors may observe: Children being provided with food that is consistent with the Dietary Guidelines for Children and Adolescents in Australia In our last e-newsletter on the theme of NUTRITION for this subscription year, we have put together a fact sheet that highlights the nutrition requirements for OSHC aged children and adolescents. This fact sheet discusses each of the Australian Dietary Guidelines, as well as the minimum recommended number of serves from each of the five food groups that children should be having per day, and what a serve actually looks like. Although OSHC services don't provide children with all of their daily serves from each of these food groups, OSHC services play an important role in assisting children to meet their nutrition requirements across the course of the day while they are in care. Click on the fact sheet to find out more! Platter Cost ComparisonElement 2.1.3 - Healthy Lifestyle Assessors may observe: Children being provided with food that is consistent with the Dietary Guidelines for Children and Adolescents in Australia The OSHC team are aware that we have experienced challenging times, both with food availability and the limited budgets that OSHC services may now be facing, which may be impacting on your menu. There is often the perception that a fruit platter is the most cost-effective platter type for services to provide. In the example below, you can see that the cost for a fruit platter vs a mixed platter (fruit, vegetables and cheese) is the same, with the additional benefits of the mixed platter providing vegetable and dairy serves in addition to fruit serves. Food Safety and COVID-19Element 2.1.2 - Health Practices and Procedures Assessors may observe: Hygiene practices that reflect current research and advice from recognised health authorities There is no evidence that COVID-19 is transmitted through food. The best way to prevent the community spread of the virus is for everyone to maintain effective hygiene and follow social distancing rules. The Food Standards Code requires food businesses to take all practicable steps to prevent contamination of their food service or processing environment regardless of COVID-19. Click on the fact sheet to find out what your service should do to maintain food safety during COVID-19. RecipesHere are two recipes that incorporate vegetables and legumes/beans into some common and popular snack ideas! These recipes could be prepared prior to children arriving at your service and stored in the fridge until they are needed, or they could also be used in a hands-on cooking activity - get the children involved in measuring, chopping and mixing, where appropriate.
