August 2014
Hello Everyone

There are lots of great organisations out there who provide online tools and information that you may be able to use in your own life or with the people you work with.

We're going to share some resources and websites that we come across in this edition and future editions of Think. Engage. Connect.

First up – Adult Leaning Australia

This  is an adult education website offering information for adults seeking to learn/participate in education that is community based.

Please check it out and again share with those that you are supporting who’s goals may be education based.

If you know of some great resources or websites to share, please get in touch.

Finally, we still have places at this month's Community Inclusion Workshop. This is a great workshop for new staff who are working one on one with people - it offers a great overview of inclusion and offers some techniques for assisting people to find a valued role in their community.

27 August - Community Inclusion Workshop

This workshop relies on drawing parallels.  You will think about a good life in the context of community, drawing from your uniquely human experience to consider the way connections with others are made and enhanced.

This same thinking will then be analysed based on what we know about the people we support. This workshop will encourage you to think about your version of a fulfilling life, and relate that to what others may see as a rich life for themselves. The entire premise of this workshop is about exploring the richness of life and the ways we can support others to share in that richness.

19 September - Disability and Inclusion

This is a workshop designed to introduce the fundamentals of inclusion whilst providing a background on what disabilities are and how we can work better to include people with disabilities.

2 October - Community Inclusion Workshop

This workshop relies on drawing parallels.  You will think about a good life in the context of community, drawing from your uniquely human experience to consider the way connections with others are made and enhanced.

This same thinking will then be analysed based on what we know about the people we support. This workshop will encourage you to think about your version of a fulfilling life, and relate that to what others may see as a rich life for themselves. The entire premise of this workshop is about exploring the richness of life and the ways we can support others to share in that richness.

15 October - Professional Boundaries for Support Workers

This workshop explores the nature of boundaries through interactive open discussion and reflective learning practices. Participants will explore existing boundaries between themselves in their support worker role, and the individuals they work for. We will then explore the necessary steps to prevent boundary violations.

This is a topic that asks participants to define what a good “working relationship” is, and how it differs from being a “friend” of the people we are paid to support.
