About Me: I am from the State of the Maine on the eastern seaboard of America. I grew up in the countryside on a hobby farm with a house that ran entirely on solar electricity and to finish off my unconventional childhood I was home schooled from the age of six. My main interests are history and culture and I enjoy travelling when ever I get the chance, especially if I can incorporate one of my first two interests into the itinerary.
My UHI: When I started looking at colleges and universities, I knew I wanted to study internationally as it would give me a broader perspective and open up new possibilities. After looking at numerous programs, I decided on UHI and Orkney due to the unique nature and location and I am very happy with my choice. UHI and Cultural Studies have offered a broad and flexible degree which suit my wide ranging interests and the lecturing has been excellent. I am also the Orkney College rep for UHISA.
My Time: When I'm not working I am out hiking and exploring Orkney's archaeology. I am also an enthusiastic student of Scottish traditional music and spend time researching old tunes and their origins. For the summer, I’m looking forward to being back in the trenches of the archaeological excavations at Ness of Brodgar, where I dug for six weeks this year.
My Dreams: I am still not sure where I am heading, but I still have a few years left on my degree to figure it out and I plan on enjoying the journey. Quite likely I will be looking to continue my studies with a Masters or PhD and eventually find employment that has my interest at the heart of it.
