CPC's Director of Jacob Riis Early Childhood Education Center Yvette Ho was quoted in a recent article in The City about the conditions of New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) facilities. CPC Jacob Riis Early Childhood Education Center is located in a NYCHA facility and has faced floods among other difficulties in the building.

CPC Hurricane Ida Relief Covered by News 12

As one of several partner organizations, CPC will provide assistance and accept applications for community members to access the relief funds. The application period closes on Friday, November 26th. In order to qualify, the applicants must a) themselves not be eligible for FEMA assistance and b) not have an individual in their household who is eligible for assistance.

CPC as well as other Asian American organizations, allies, and advocates have called on the Governor to sign legislation that will help the state distribute resources to Asian Americans more effectively. The bill passed both the NY State Assembly and Senate in June 2021.

EmblemHealth named its new Flushing facility the "Charles P. Wang Center for Wellness." The Center, named after CPC's former Executive Director Charles P. Wang, opened on October 6th, and was attended by EmblemHealth CEO Karen Ignagni, Charles P. Wang, Congresswoman Grace Meng, and other elected officials and community leaders.

CPC Participates in Election Day of Service

CPC staff and community members participated in get out the vote and election day activities as part of CPC's Day of Service. In the weeks before Tuesday, November 2nd, CPC joined APA VOICE as partners for Get Out the Vote activities, including tabling events at Essex Market. On Election Day, Bo Lo, Gissel Mejia, and Jason Liu of the CPC Family Child Care Network and other staff volunteered as poll workers.

Free Construction Training Program - Registration Open
CPC Career Center is accepting applications for the November 2021 session of BuildingWorks' FREE training program. This is a 6-week class that will prepare individuals for a career as a Union Carpenter. The next class will begin on November 8 and end on December 17. Classes meet Monday thru Friday from 7:30 AM to 4 PM. Classes will be conducted in-person in Lower Manhattan, with some classes held virtually.
