Hurricane Harvey: Situation Report #1 -- September 4, 2017

Dear Friends,

The First United Methodist Church of Houston, in the heart of the city, is where we’ve set up our base of operations for Hope Force International.  The devastating waters from Hurricane Harvey have receded from most communities, and now the reality of what has happened...and what lies ahead engulfs the mind and overwhelms emotions.

Try to imagine the impact of seeing your home and other precious memories ravaged throughout what has been your safe place --your home for many years. The task seems insurmountable. Where and how does someone begin to take on such a daunting challenge?

Before our Hope Force teams headed into the fray, we spent time together in the word and in prayer.  “Lord, direct us to those You have selected in advance for us to serve.”  Previously, we had read Ephesians 2:8 – 10

“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”

The compelling story of Ms. Yi is one that demonstrates how God has prepared good works for us to do, and will be faithful to lead us to those who are in desperate need of the "ministry of presence" -- the tangible touch of Jesus' love and compassion.

We invite you to watch as Ms. Yi shares her experience in this moving video:

We value your ongoing prayers and financial support as we continue the arduous task of providing relief in such desperate times.  The good news of the gospel is being demonstrated moment by moment...day by day through the selfless hard work and sacrifice of HFI Reservist’s from all across this country.  People just like you -- they’ve prepared in advance for service in these conditions in order to share the love of God in tangible and deliberate ways.  This is true worship….

Thank you to all who have served, prayed and given in support of Hope Force International’s efforts here in Texas. Together, we are a team -- and we share in the joy of knowing that when each one of us does our part, the body is functioning as it should – healthy, strong and affective.
