During the program, journalists will hear from experts on the ways food is grown, marketed, sold and, unfortunately, often wasted. They will learn about labeling, growing methods, GMOs, pesticide and herbicide use, and organic farming. The program includes field trips to labs and farms. The training will be held Sept. 23-26, 2018, in Kansas City, Mo. The all-expenses-paid fellowship covers airfare, ground transportation, hotel costs and most meals. Support for this program provided by a grant from Bayer. The National Press Foundation is producing a free one-day workshop in Washington, D.C., for journalists covering trade and related issues. Expert speakers will detail the history of international trade; the impact of tariffs on U.S. goods and services; how to analyze trade-related jobs data; the trade deficit; and more. The training will be held Friday, Aug. 3 from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the University of Maryland’s Philip Merrill College of Journalism, 1300 Pennsylvania Ave. NW, Washington, D.C. Lunch will be provided. Registration required. Speakers will include Jennifer Hillman of the Georgetown Law Center; John G. Murphy of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce; Doug Palmer of Politico; Scott N. Paul of the Alliance for American Manufacturing; Paul D. Wharton Seminars for Business JournalistsClick here to apply by Friday, Aug. 31Each year, NPF offers two all-expenses-paid fellowships for the annual Wharton Seminars for Business Journalists at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. The fellowship includes full tuition, housing, most meals and round-trip transportation. All U.S.-based journalists whose work represents the highest standards of business journalism are eligible to apply. The seminars offer participants an opportunity to expand their knowledge of business by attending courses conducted by leading Wharton faculty, hearing guest lectures by business leaders, and competing in an intensive, computer-simulated strategic management exercise. The 2018 seminars take place Oct. 7-10. We completed a program in Tampa, Florida, where a class of 20 fellows learned about the past, present and future of oceans and fisheries.
