Spread the word, not STIs

space

Testing positive for a sexually transmitted infection (STI) is often no reason to panic, as there are ways to treat most STIs.

It’s equally important to not feel shame and not to keep this information to yourself.  You need to inform current and past sexual partners to prevent the infection from spreading.  For more listen here.  Sexual health workers can make some phone calls for you too if you prefer.

Haven't been tested?

Getting checked is easily done and you should not just go if you think something is wrong.  Listen here.

For more information visit the 2 Spirits program online here or talk to your sexual health worker or GP.

Did you know some sexually transmitted infections don't always present obvious symptoms leading to infections going undetected and untreated.

This can affect your fertility or if you are expecting, it can affect your unborn child.

Indigenous physician, Dr Trish Fagan, says an an example, not treating an STI like syphilis can cause problems for mother and child.  Listen here for more.

If you're sexually active and had unprotected sex you should get an STI and pregnancy test as a precaution.  If you test positive for an STI or pregancy make sure you inform current/past partners and get treatment.
