Dear Friends,

I am excited to update you on our effort to establish a dream home for the Chinese-American Planning Council (CPC) in Lower Manhattan. Because of your support, over 3,000 community members have signed the petition, written a letter, or filled out a postcard in support of our Broome Street Development Project. The City has heard your voice and understands how the project will benefit the community, as Community Board 3, the Manhattan Borough President, and the City Planning Commission have approved the project.

Our project is at the final stage and needs approval from the City Council. With your continued support, our project will build on CPC's 55 years of impact and will benefit the community through:

  • A 40,000 square foot permanent home for the Chinese-American Planning Council on Broome Street between Norfolk and Suffolk Streets. All nearby community members will be welcome to experience our community center, along with the 25,000 Lower Manhattan residents who are currently engaged with CPC.

  •  A renovated cultural center for the Beth Hamedrash Hagadol (BHH) Synagogue at its historic location of 60 Norfolk Street. BHH Synagogue has been part of Lower Manhattan since 1885, and our project will enable the synagogue to remain part of the community and have a cultural center open to the public.

  • 93 permanently affordable housing apartments for low to moderate income New Yorkers, and 115 permanently affordable housing apartments for seniors. The affordable housing apartments in our proposed development will be at an average 53% Area Median Income (AMI), which is more affordable than neighboring developments.

To ensure that our project is approved by the City Council, I ask that you continue to advocate for our dream.
