County Commission Meeting - Tuesday, December 17th

Sorry for the short notice!  The Suwannee County Commission meets at 6:00 p.m. tomorrow (December 17th).  One of the items on their agenda is to:  Discuss, with possible Board action, the response from the Department of Economic Opportunity - Division of Community Development regarding Land Development Regulations.  This is to do with the Catalyst Site and the proposed changes being requested by a group in Suwannee County.

The DEO says in their letter that "my staff is available to compile examples of land development regulations and other planning tools for similar sites and facilitate community discussions on these examples to help yor staff tailor them to the needs of Suwannee County.  Additionally, the Department has received funding to assist local government to implement the Community Planning Act, addressing critical local planning issues, and promoting innovative planning solutions.  My staff and I are available to meet with you to further discuss these options."

Do we need the state coming in to provide this "service"?    Can't we handle this sensibly as a county?  Years ago when we had a problem with the Comprehensive Plan, we contacted the Dept. of Community Affairs (the DEO today) and were told that we should handle it through our Zoning Board and County Commission.  We did and it was worked out satisfactorily for all parties.  That can happen again; we have spent a lot of money on the Catalyst Site in an effort to bring industry to this area.  There wil still be two public hearings before any company is approved to come in.  We need to trust our local system to work!

There is a push to have the DEO come in--please try to come to the commission meeting and let them know how you feel about this!  If you cannot come, please contact them!

Please get involved - if you live in another county, please try to go to your meetings.  Many of the decisions made locally affect us more than those made at the state and federal levels!

What Can You Do?

This is a story about four people, named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody. There was an important job to be done, and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it. Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did. Somebody got angry about this, because it was Everybody's job. Everybody thought Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it. It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.
Never sit back and think that someone else will act. Now, is the time. There is just too much on the line....
