September 11th, 2001

The 20th Anniversary

It’s hard to believe that 20 years have passed since the September 11th devastating terrorist attack and loss of life in 2001.

In a meticulously planned attack, terrorists hijacked four airliners. They flew three of the planes into the World Trade Center in New York City and into the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia. A fourth crashed in rural Pennsylvania. The attacks killed 2,977 people and injured thousands more, including 343 firefighters and 60 police officers.

In prior years the Town of Juno Beach has held a Remembrance Event at the 9/11 Memorial Plaza near the Police Station and Town Hall. Last year, and again this year, a decision was made, in an abundance of caution due to the Covid-19 pandemic, not to conduct a public event in 2021.

Police Chief Brian Smith would like to invite all Juno Beach residents to take a moment out of their time on Saturday, September 11, 2021, to remember those thousands of people killed or injured on that fateful day in America's history.

Perhaps you can find time for a quiet visit to the Town's 9/11 Remembrance Memorial to reflect on the day and to honor the memory of the many lives lost.

Speed Awaresness Monitoring - Highly Successful

"Speed Awareness Monitors are making a big difference!"

Chief of Police Brian Smith tells us that the two new Speed Awareness Monitor trailers, funded by the Juno Beach Police Foundation, are being quite effective in slowing down traffic within the Town of Juno Beach. Additionally, he says that he has received several favorable comments from residents about how they have positively affected safety concerns in the Town.

The two trailers (along with the golf car shown here moving the trailer) were funded by the Police Foundation. They were ordered in April, delivered in May, and following some training were immediately put into use.

Two New Police Officers Complete Field Training

Since the start of 2021, the Juno Beach Police Department has recruited and hired two new Police Officers who are now finishing up their Field Training.

Police Officer Chris St. John (left) comes to Juno Beach after 5 years in the US Navy where he served as a law enforcement supervisor, criminal investigator, and training coordinator. Originally from New York, Officer St. John holds a Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice from Southern New Hampshire University in Manchester and is currently working on his proficiency in Spanish. Police Officer Jeff Klein (right) comes to Juno Beach having graduated from the Police Academy at the Florida Public Safety Institute. Also originally from New York, Officer Klein holds a Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice from Florida State University in Jacksonville and has additional training as a Medical First Responder.

The Police Foundation is pleased to welcome both of these new Officers to the ranks of the Juno Beach Police Department.

Coffee With A Cop

Due to the increase once again in Covid-19 and specifically the Delta version, the Town will not conduct Coffee With A Cop in September 2021

September 11 Remembrance

As with Coffee With a Cop, and in an abundance of caution, the Town has decided to not conduct this annual event in 2021

The Blue Mass

Held in conjunction with National Police Week, the Blue Mass is celebrated annually, for members of all faiths, throughout the United States. It brings together members of law enforcement, firefighters, and other first responders.

This year's Blue Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, September 29th at the Cathedral of St. Ignatius Loyola in Palm Beach Gardens by the Most Reverand Bishop Gerald M. Barbarito, Bishop of Palm Beach County.
