2nd Grade eNews

We are working hard on our speeches and songs for our MLK chapel on Thursday, January 23rd. Don’t forget, we are out Monday, January 20th for MLK Day!

Next Week

  • Bible - We will continue to study about Esther. This week we will focus on her unselfishness and we will be reading in
  • Esther, using chapters 3-5.
  • Memory Verse - Philippians 2:4, “Everyone should look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others.”
  • Reading - We will read a biography on “Gabriela” this week. Our skill will be Author’s Word Choice.
  • Spelling - vowel teams au, aw, and a before l.  Here are some examples of words this week: draw, straw, hawk, squawk, prawn, fraud, auto, August, launch, call, ball, salt
  • Grammar - Forms of the verb be – am, is, are, was, were
  • Math - Continue Roman Numerals; introduce multiplication with 10 as a factor and measuring with centimeters and meters

Important Dates

  • January 20 - NO SCHOOL - MLK HOLIDAY
  • January 23 - MLK Chapel! 8:30 am in the Kids’ Theater.  Second grade will be singing and giving speeches on this day.
  • January 30 - Little Dribblers - This is a basketball routine that 1st grade will perform during chapel time. 
  • February 3 - Teacher Compassion Fund Giving Day.  Students may bring a $1 or more donation and wear spirit dress.
  • February 14 - Valentine’s Day Parties at 2:30
  • February 21 - Book Character Day (more information coming soon)
  • March 4 - Spring Pictures
