October 19, 2015 - Situation Report #3

Check out this clip of our Hope Force Reservists in action as they serve those affected by flooding in South Carolina.

Hope Force International (HFI) continues its flood recovery efforts in South Carolina.  As the waters recede and the extent of damage becomes clear, many are facing the harsh reality of what lies ahead -- a crushing weight to bear.  As our HFI Reservists and staff engage in flood remediation, survivors are comforted and their spirits buoyed by help from “strangers.”  By the time the task is finished, the transition from strangers to “family” brings comfort and renewed hope.

It’s hard, dirty work – the type of work most wouldn’t want to do – even if you paid them.  Yet, Hope Force Reservists travel from across the country (at their own expense) to get up early and stay up late to expend themselves on behalf of people they don’t even know.  Why?  Because as followers of Jesus and with a desire to emulate His example, our love for Him is often expressed in acts of compassionate action on behalf of others.  In so doing, the hard, dirty work that we would typically avoid is transformed into a beautiful expression of loving care and concern for others.

HFI will remain involved in flood recovery efforts throughout the month of October and is in the process of determining the longevity of our efforts.  It is possible that we may engage in rebuilding efforts in the days ahead.  The decision will be taken in collaboration with local partners -- and with consideration of both human and financial resources.

We appreciate your prayers for wisdom and direction.   We also invite you to invest in these efforts to help our “neighbors” in South Carolina through your generous financial support.

With heartfelt gratitude,
