Marshall Islands Medical Mission TripAn orthopedic surgical team from Providence St. Mary Medical Center in Walla Walla, Washington, including CST Jody Molina, recently brought help to the Marshall Islands in Micronesia. The volunteer effort was organized by Canvasback Missions. Ms. Molina was kind enough to share the following information and photos from her trip. "When I was asked to attend an orthopedic surgery medical mission to a third world country I knew instantly that I would go! It didn’t matter where it was or when—I just knew I was going to say yes! I had to do it! I’ve always wanted to give back and I felt this was the best way to use my gifts and talent. The medical mission to Majuro, Marshall Islands focused on total knee arthroplasties, total hip arthoplasties, and knee arthroscopies. In total we helped more than 30 surgical patients (plus many more in the clinic who didn’t need surgery). I feel so blessed to have worked with my team from St Mary’s Hospital in Walla Walla, Washington as well as other team members who joined us from across the
country. It’s easy to get stuck in a rut and not appreciate the amazing life we’re living. Doing the same thing day to day and getting in a routine, no matter how comfortable, isn’t enough to feel alive. This trip gave me the chance to reboot and put things into perspective. I went in knowing it was self serving—that I wanted to fill my soul with a rich and fulfilling experience but I got out of it so much more and I will remember it forever."
