URGENT: Louisiana Flood Situation Report #1

August 16, 2016

After assessing the flood situation in Louisiana, Hope Force International's (HFI) leadership has made arrangements with a strong, local partner in Baton Rouge where collaborative relief efforts will soon be underway.

The flood devastation across the southern portion of the United States has been described as "Katrina-level."  The rainfall in Louisiana this past Saturday has led to six deaths and over 20,000 people rescued -- many of whom were stranded along I-12 until rescue operations could be completed Sunday; 10,000+ residents have been placed in shelters. Flooding produced by more than 30 inches of rain in Louisiana has prompted the President and Governor John Bel Edwards to declare a state of emergency. Reports indicate that rivers have yet to crest. As waters begin to recede, massive response efforts by multiple agencies will be required.

An HFI advance team is departing today to coordinate and prepare to receive our HFI Reservists who are arriving from across the U.S. Please pray for the flood survivors, as the trauma is great.

Also, we need your help!  Please contribute toward the flood relief efforts as HFI mounts this response.

Thank you!
