Human sympathy is not the same as godly compassion.  It’s fickle, fragile, temperamental, limited and vulnerable to prejudice.  Whereas godly compassion has it’s source in the heart of God and not the corruptible nature of man.  It is pure, loving, consistent, sustainable and all embracing.  The only way for a human being to express true compassion is to draw from the heart of our gracious, compassionate and slow to anger God as our Source. For the last decade, Hope Force International has had the privilege of being national partners with the largest faith-based disaster response agency in the United States – The Salvation Army.  We are grateful to have served alongside this time-honored organization in many disaster events here in the U.S., and abroad.  Our most recent partnership was in the devastating Washington fires.   We are honored to share the most recent commendations from our friends:

Major Ron Busroe, National Headquarters, Community Relations Secretary:  “For the past ten years, The Salvation Army has built a truly collaborative partnership with Hope Force International of Brentwood, Tennessee.  They have become an extremely valuable part of our deployment teams, providing the highest quality service possible.  The partnership has worked seamlessly, due in large measure to the fact that our individual missions work so well together. From the very inception of Hope Force International, our mission has been “To alleviate suffering caused by disasters and chronic human need through mobilizing the global Christian community into compassionate action.”  And…from the earliest days of the organization, the desire to include America’s Appalachian region as a targeted area for chronic need outreach resided in the hearts of HFI’s founders, Jack and Cherie Minton.  This later was brought to the forefront when HFI staffer Craig Snow shared his heart for this needy region. HFI Haiti House to be dedicated in December. We want to say a special thank you to all who’ve given generously and prayed regularly to see this home brought to fruition.  We’re excited by the opportunity this home represents to “move into the neighborhood” of Sous Savanne and the surrounding villages.

Glenda is often referred to as “Ms. Hope Force.” A participant in the 2005 inaugural disaster responder training course, she and her husband Steve serve in so many ways--both seen and unseen.  Their church near Atlanta has worked with us in Haiti several times, making a dramatic impact on those served…and those serving.  Lives have been transformed by their bold steps of compassion in action. View a video of their recent trip and imagine you and your team joining in!

  • What can you do from the comfort of your own home to prepare for disaster service?
We have become increasingly aware of the importance and potential future requirement for all disaster workers to be certified in NIMS (National Incident Management Systems), a part of FEMA.

Four NIMS courses are offered on-line at no cost.  These courses provide a foundational understanding of how a disaster response is structured and organized from a local, state and Federal level.  Once completed, these courses are entered under your name into a national database, allowing any disaster site to confirm your compliance.
