Happy Days with Mixxit & the Fonz

The King of Cool meets Mixxit legend. On Wayne Collins UK TV show ‘Something For The Weekend’ viewers were blown away to be re-connected with the coolest man who ever has been on the small screen. The Fonz! Henry Winkler is the actor who played the 70’s star who defined a decade of fashion with one single outfit

"IT was bigger than meeting Elvis"

On chatting to Wayne about the episode he says, "We've had some big stars on the show, but for the first time the entire crew actually queued to shake his hand and have a photo. It was bigger than meeting Elvis."

We’ve captured some of his best moments here with this famous 'over the phone' jukebox scene, the Fonz ending segregation, and lastly the ultimate fight scene with Tom Hanks.

Fred Noe from coast to coast

Fred Noe from coast to coast

It's always a pleasure to have Fred out touring with the team and when we asked him about what he likes about Australia, he replied “Hell tha people in Aus-tralia are just so damn coo-wel, my dad always said, son, jus wait til ya go ta Aus-tralia one day, it’s the honey hole, the coooolest place in tha worrrld”.

Over 1,000 lucky people met the legendary Fred Noe. During his Brisbane to Perth tour he waxed lyrical about his family’s heritage and relaunching Jim Beam Black. Fred is the seventh generation in the Beam family and Master Distiller at Jim Beam.
For those fortunate enough to come along to one of Fred’s sessions they enjoyed the opportunity to taste the new Jim Beam Black along with his father’s signature bourbon, Booker’s. Fred now selects the whiskey for this barrel proof bourbon and makes each batch in his father’s kitchen, the Beam family house.
A true southern gentleman with a quick wit, Fred enjoys his bourbon with a splash of water and most of the time it’s a Jim Beam Black, which he considers the best value bourbon on the shelf.
Jim Beam Black, Triple aged (three times the age requirement to be called a straight bourbon) is now at a minimum of 6 years of aging bottled at 80 proof (40%) and boasts a full-bodied flavour with charred vanillas, hints of baked fruits and a rounded caramel, oaky finish.

If you've ever wanted to start blogging about your drinks, Tumblr is about as good as it gets for mobile blogging.

Book

This month our hot tip is The Cafe Royal Cocktail Book, Coronation edition by William Tarling. Tarling was the second president of the UKBG, succeeding Harry Craddock. The fascinating thing about this book is the mention in its preface about Jerry Thomas' visit to London and an age old formula for Punch.

Cruzan gets scratchy at Melbourne Rum Club

To celebrate the longest running rum club in the southern hemisphere, our own Brendon Rogers put on his Caribbean island hat and made a drink or two with the very special, Cruzan Rum.
Ninety of the cities leading bartenders fronted up to Golden Monkey to celebrate Melbourne Rum Club’s 5th birthday. We honoured cocktails old and new, with a fresh take on the ‘back scratcher’ which was Cruzan Aged Rum, Bols White Cacao, Pineapple Juice and fresh lime over ice and topped with a bit of ginger fizz. What really brought the room to life was the 47cm Bamboo Back Scratcher for a garnish. Luckily we had enough for everyone who came down.
Thanks again to our hosts Golden Monkey
