Charles has been a visionary leader for the tourism industry who was a driving force behind establishing Cairns as a destination of choice for both international and domestic visitors. His belief that, to succeed in tourism, you must first promote Australia, then Queensland, then your region, before your own business has helped achieve regional and state tourism prosperity, in turn leading to his own success. Charles also recognised the importance of supporting, preserving and sharing Indigenous culture and provided opportunities for employment and training Smoking Restrictions now apply in National ParksFrom 1 February 2017, smoking restrictions will apply in national parks. These restrictions are part of expanded measures by Queensland Health to limit damaging effects of smoking on the community in Queensland. Smoking will be banned in national parks within 10 metres of: occupied campsites (whether visitors are present or not), picnic tables, shelter sheds, toilets, barbecues, information centres, jetties and boat ramps.
