Bradlee Editor of the Year Award. NPF judges said: “We saw courage in the face of unimaginable tragedy in the Capital Gazette editor and his staff. It underscores the importance of local newspapers and the unbreakable bond with their communities.” John Donnelly, a national security and foreign policy reporter for CQ Roll Call, has won the Everett McKinley Dirksen Award for Distinguished Reporting of Congress. The judges’ citation: “John Donnelly’s reporting demonstrates outstanding mastery of the defense beat. ICYMI ResourcesTips for Covering Election NightOn November 6, an elaborate process will unfold at a handful of news organizations that count the vote and declare the winners. Evans Witt, a pollster who is an election night analyst for NBC News, and Stephen Ohlemacher, AP’s election decision editor, describe the labor-intensive process that goes into election night, including temporary workers hired at all 4,000 counties and townships where votes are counted. Use their resources to better understand election-night coverage.
